Risk Mitigation

Risk Mitigation: Robust and Efficient Engineering

In Central America and the Caribbean, building without certified seismic and wind engineering poses an unacceptable legal and financial risk. Every millimeter of our structure is designed to withstand operating conditions that comply with local regulations and international standards.

Hurricane Resistance
Calculation of seismic and wind loads in accordance with ASCE 7 and local codes. Connections designed to withstand winds exceeding 250 km/h in areas of critical exposure.

ASCE 7 - ANSI/AISC 360 - SMACNA

Seismic Resistance
In-house engineering for high seismicity zones in Panama and Costa Rica. Rigid connections and bracing according to each country's regulations.

CSCR - CFIA - REP Panama

Local Regulations
Seismic and wind building codes. Compliance documented on every drawing from the design phase onward.

Design requirement - Not for correction

Pre-Field Inspection
Dimensional control, welds, paint thickness, shot blasting and adhesion test in factory. No component leaves without registered verification.

Traceability per part - Skid checking

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions about Industrial Steel Construction

We answer the technical and financial questions that managers and investors ask before committing capital to infrastructure.

Yes - but resistance is not a generic attribute of the material: it is the result of a specific calculation for each territory. Our in-house engineering team sizes each project according to the seismic and wind codes in force in the country where it operates, as a design requirement from the outset, not as an afterthought. In the Dominican Republic, we calculate for resistance to high category hurricanes. In Costa Rica, for areas of active seismic activity. In Panama, for REP requirements. More than 20 years calculating structures for extreme conditions in Central America and the Caribbean back up every project we deliver.

An industrialized steel structure can be erected between 30% and 50% faster than conventional construction, depending on the size of the project. The difference is not only in assembly: the engineering process with BIM resolves interferences before fabrication, eliminating the rework that lengthens traditional construction sites. For an investor, every month of delay has a real cost - interest on committed capital and unearned revenue. Delivering ahead of schedule is not a business case: it is a direct impact on the return on the asset.

An existing structure was designed for another operation. Adapting your logistics to that building means compromising clear heights, dock position, floor capacity and circulation routes - constraints that lead to ongoing operational inefficiency and rising maintenance costs. A custom-engineered industrial building delivers exactly what your operation requires from day one of operation. In addition, a technically documented engineered industrial asset has a higher market value than standard structures - whether for future sale or for lease to third parties.

Each component undergoes a rigorous inspection protocol at the factory before shipment - dimensional, welds, painting and traceability per part. We perform skid checking before shipment and upon receipt on site, with photographic documentation of each stage. We do not depend on the manufacturer's honesty: our technical team verifies on-site. No non-conforming component arrives at the quarry, which protects the schedule and eliminates rework costs in the field.

Through the Constructin 360° system, we install cameras at strategic points of the plant that update images every Monday and Thursday. You have complete visibility of progress without the need for international travel. In addition, a Connect Buildings partner or engineer is physically present on site during critical assembly stages - direct supervision is not outsourced. The investor receives first source information with the frequency and level of detail that managing a high-value asset requires.

The three systems respond to different load, span and schedule logics. The PEB system with full web portal frames concentrates the steel where the structure needs it most, making it ideal for large clear spans and high loads - the predominant solution in high specification industrial buildings. The Joist truss girder system covers large spans with lighter structures, reducing the load on foundations and the logistical cost of importation. Roll On applies continuous ribbon roofing that eliminates seams and guarantees total waterproofing, critical in Caribbean and Central American climates. The selection is made by our in-house engineering team based on operational requirements, schedule and available budget.
